GRP releases 2nd edition of the Global Corruption Index (GCI)

Geneva, October 30, 2019 – Global Risk Profile (GRP) releases the second edition of the Global Corruption Index (GCI), which provides an assessment of the state of corruption and other white-collar crimes throughout the world.

The GCI results for 2019 indicate that the situation has globally worsened all around the globe, in particular in the Americas and Africa. Africa is also the lowest scoring region on the index: in many countries, efforts to fight against corruption and other white-collar crimes are hampered by weak institutions and well-established corruption schemes.

In the top end, Denmark has replaced Finland as best performer. The top five countries are Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and New Zealand. Ranked 14, Iceland has dropped 6 ranks since last year and appears as an exception among Nordic countries. Falling from the 24th to the 30th rank, the situation of the United States has also globally declined. A particular attention should be given to the evolution of citizen voice, government functioning and effectiveness.

Countries leading their regions are Canada for North America, Uruguay for South America, Denmark for Europe, Cabo Verde for Africa, Singapore for Asia and New Zealand for Oceania.

The complete 2019 results including interactive data visualization and technical documentation are available on a dedicated website: risk-indexes.com/global-corruption-index
